SKUD-18: Speed and Performance
The SKUD-18 is the creation of two boat designers: one with intimate knowledge of disabled sailing ideology and the other with extensive experience designing high performance skiffs. The boat is fast and turns on a dime, making it an exciting and challenging craft to race.
Disabled sailors can adapt the boat to fit their needs and typically both skipper and crew are seated along the center of the hull with canting chairs to maximize weight efficiency. The boat was designed specifically for Paralympic competition, and made its debut at the 2008 Games in Qingdao, China. The criteria requires at least one of the two-person crew to be female, which has greatly increased female involvement in Paralympic sailing.
